Get a small glass jar and pour some naphtha in it. Drop in the tuners. Seal the jar. Leave overnight.

I've been tempted to use an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner on tuners. Of course, since I don't own one I'd have to go out and buy one. Has anyone ever tried this? It looks like a safe way clean tuners....

Aluminum foil crumpled loosely and run under the tap to catch some water Scrub the rust from the tuners. Won't scratch the metal like steel wool, removes rust very easily...wipe off all black residue....
